When we wrote about the NFC team needs two weeks ago, there was little to write about which NFC teams would make a big splash at the opening of free agency. Indeed, when it came to which teams Peyton Manning might go to, while the Forty-Niners were mentioned as a possibility, until the story broke that the Forty-Niners had in fact talked to him and worked Manning out, secretly it looked like a race among strictly AFC teams for which team would get the prize of Manning’s services or the 2012 season.
