As you know, fantasy points allowed is an average of the fantasy points allowed by a team, in this case, to defenses and to kickers. It is intended to help you identify when your defense or kicker has a favorable fantasy football match-up versus an unfavorable fantasy football match-up.
While The Fantasy Greek preaches playing the fantasy football players with the best match-ups, don’t check your common sense at the door. Just because a player (defense or kicker) may have a better match-up does not mean you should bench your stud defense or kicker, or worse yet, drop them to waivers just to have another fantasy footballer pick them up. Put another way, even if you have both the Colts defense and the Bears defense, you are likely not going to bench the Bears defense and special teams because they are that good.
The Fantasy Greek has also provided each team’s rank as of Week 16 in 2011, as well as each team’s rank as of Week 7 in 2012, for comparison purposes which could help you understand whether a team’s performance could be an anomaly or a sign that they are simply that good or that bad.
As the season progresses, the range by position should “flatten.” The range of most fantasy points allowed to least fantasy points allowed, from high to low should be roughly as follows by position:
Defense/Special Teams: 13 on the high end to 3 on the low end
Kickers: 10 on the high end to 5 on the low end
Good luck this week!
