Ranking by Position Overview – Mid-August Update

It’s time to update the fantasy football rankings by position now that free agency has been to settle just a bit. (See previous rankings.)  We’ve provided the rankings by position – Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver, Tight-End, Defense and KickerYou will note that some players have an asterisk by their names. In some cases, this denotes a player who could have been injured last season. For some players, we are simply waiting to see if the player fully recovered from injury such as Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew. Also, the asterisk could denote a player whose role in the offense is still not assured such as Tim Hightower. There is also an asterisk by players whose role could substantially change in 2011 like LaDainian Tomlinson and by the names of players that have yet to land on any team like Clinton Portis. Lastly, rookies are noted as such and ranked accordingly.

Also, after each player’s name, contained in parentheses, is their strength of schedule by position. The number “1” denotes the easiest schedule, and as the numbers descend, this indicates that the player’s schedule is more difficult until reaching the most difficult schedule denoted by the number “32.”

Suffice it to say, that these rankings will continue to change in the next few weeks as we approach the kick-off to the regular season. The rankings will also change once we get a better idea of how players will be used in the upcoming season, and how good they look on the field in pre-season games.
